Pair of mid century armchairs by Šmidek
A pair of mid-century bentwood armchairs, designed by Jaroslav Šmidek and made in the former Czechoslovakia. This particular design - 6951 - was created as a submission to a competition run by TON in the 1960s. It was put into production and was very popular; it remains a much sought-after design to the present day. These chairs are in good structural condition: the beech frame is generally solid. The finish on the arms is worn, but the issue is cosmetic only. The upholstery is original: the fabric is largely intact but the foam padding has started to perish.
